Not all networks are created equal and you need your IP Video solution to be as flexible as possible. VBrick’s Windows Media Reflector is the perfect companion to a VBrick Windows Media Encoder – enabling access to live broadcasts for hundreds or thousands of viewers; across a multi-site organization.
One of the biggest challenges when deploying any enterprise-wide IP video solution is the bandwidth available on the wide area network (WAN). These are usually costly low-bandwidth links that are prone to becoming network bottlenecks. These WAN links typically don’t have IP multicast (a network protocol for efficiently delivering IP video) enabled and often service providers are reluctant or unable to deliver IP multicast services. With some IP video solutions this would be game over, but VBrick has designed our solution to deal specifically with this problem.
VBrick Windows Media Encoders send a single unicast stream across the WAN and deliver it to a Windows Media Reflector at a remote location. The video reflector locally retransmits the stream to multiple end-users by using IP multicast on the remote location’s local area network (LAN). Viola, we distribute video effectively over the wide area network without having to worry about saturating WAN bandwidth or worrying if the WAN is IP multicast enabled.
You may not have IP multicast enabled on their LAN either, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t use IP video. The same Windows Media Reflector has an embedded streaming server that can deliver up to 200 simultaneous unicast streams. Deployed properly, several video reflectors can be work together to reach you audience – without having to do a major network overhaul.
VBrick Windows Media Encoders can operate flawlessly as stand-alone appliances or be deployed as part of a larger VBrick solution. VEMS Mystro media management portal simplifies the user experience by intelligently directing users to the appropriate video reflector. If you are using our VBOSS internet streaming service you can also use a reflector on your LAN to deliver that content without over utilizing your internet connection.
Delivering Windows Media® video and audio has never been easier. The VBrick reflector technology enables a Windows Media Reflector to receive video over a low bandwidth link and retransmit it onto a local area network. This important capability allows the solution to bridge low bandwidth bottlenecks by only delivering one video stream over the low bandwidth link, and then retransmitting video to multiple end users at the far end.
VBrick’s reflector capability is available as a service of our Windows Media Encoding Appliance (giving remote sites the ability to also stream video), or can be purchased as a stand-alone element.
Receive a live stream over the network and deliver it locally via unicast or multicast
The Reflector functionality allows a WM Appliance to receive video over a low bandwidth link and retransmit onto a local area network. This important capability allows the appliance to bridge low bandwidth bottlenecks by only delivering one video stream over the low bandwidth link and then delivering video to multiple end users at the far end.
Serve up to 200 live unicast streams or 20 on-demand streams
Multicast a live video directly from the appliance
Push up to 25 simultaneous streams to VBrick’s or Windows Media Servers
Record video that is being received over the network (requires optional hard drive)
Windows Media Reflector can be remotely managed by VEMS Mystro to turn or off remotely, record content or reflect streams. Additionally, streams can be centrally recorded, stored and offered for future playback.
Complete remote configuration and management solution via SNMP, or enable automated configuration download (new) via periodic configuration polling
